JOB TITLE: Field Applications Engineer

REPORTING TO: Durakool Product Manager

DEPARTMENT: USA – Sales


JOB PURPOSE

To deliver Field Applications Engineering Excellence, working with customers, sales, business development and product development teams. The Field Applications Engineer (FAE) will be required to travel extensively to visit customers and potential customers at their facilities. The FAE will use their extensive knowledge of contactors and relays to Identify, develop and implement solutions for customers using the Durakool® product range.

The FAE will support the customer facing teams to deliver enhanced levels of sales growth whilst helping to define and extend the product range. Reporting responsibility includes existing product portfolio, new product development, and wider applications success. The FAE will be instrumental in positioning Solid State Supplies as the subject matter experts with regard to the Durakool® product portfolio.

MAIN JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

• To help the company grow its business by selling more product to existing and new customers in North America
• Understand customer applications, propose design and specifications to deliver application solutions
• Work with all customer facing teams to develop new design opportunities for the relays and contactors, focusing on the Durakool® product range
• Liaise with customer design teams, inhouse and external design teams in developing the final validated application solution
• Create a culture of implementing robust, reliable technical solutions to solve customers’ product and design issues
• To coach, train and develop skills through the engineering / sales team
• Monitor and understand the market landscape for new products
• Promote the effective implementation and introduction of new products
• Assist with preparing and presenting data for sales review meetings
• Create and deliver technical customer seminars to promote Durakool
• Support problem solving in relation to customer manufacturing processes ensuring that corrective actions are implemented efficiently and effectively
• Challenge product design / process specifications to achieve enhanced process performance target “best in class”
• Work with the Durakool® Product manager to provide data necessary to bring new devices and solutions to market

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

  • Demonstrable track record of providing contactor and relay solutions in a wide range of applications
  • Proven experience of designing complete solutions with contactors and relays
  • Proven experience of managing professional relationships
  • Engineering degree or demonstrable track record of working at a high level of competency within the power switching environment

SKILLS & COMPETENCIES REQUIRED

  • An enquiring mindset with the ability to see the whole solution
  • Good mathematical skills
  • Good understanding of electrical theory
  • In depth knowledge of relays and contactors including high energy systems
  • Project management skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels verbally and in writing
  • Experience of using Six Sigma tools, with demonstrable problem solving skills an advantage
  • Computer and Microsoft Office literate
  • Willingness to travel extensively around North America
  • Knowledge of necessary standards, approvals and quality systems (UL, TUV, CSA, IATF, 8D reports)
  • Ability to appreciate the strategic implications and costs of decisions made in managing solutions delivery.
  • Understanding of H&S legislation and the impact on a product testing environment
  • Self motivated, demonstrates initiative
  • Ability to prioritise workload within a rapidly changing environment
  • Good attention to detail
  • Good commercial acumen
  • The ideal candidate will demonstrate that extra spark of ingenuity to see how a product might be repurposed, modified or adjusted to provide robust and innovative solutions.
